The VIRGO experiment aims at the detection of tiny gravitational waves signals from cosmic sources like supernovae, pulsars and binary neutron stars by measuring the phase difference between the laser beams propagating through a large (3 km) suspended Michelson interferometer. This detector is located near Pisa, in Italy. VIRGO is a scientific collaboration of 5 french laboratories (CNRS) and 6 italian laboratories (INFN). Some other Gravitational Waves Interferometric Detectors are built: LIGO in USA, GEO in Germany , TAMA in Japan , ACIGA in Australia.
